Ireland: Giant’s Causeway

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

I remember when I first saw those rocks, it appeared on the cover of the Led Zeppelin album “Houses of the Holy“. I can’t believe such hexagonal shaped rocks could exist in this world. The Giant’s Causeway is the results of volcanic eruption formed 60 million years ago. Today you can see approximately 40,000 columns of basalt rocks on this land. It’s one of the fourth greatest natural wonders in the United Kingdom. The Causeway become widely known as the ‘Eighth Wonder of the World’ in the 1700s when large numbers of visitors came to view this amazing array of basalt columns. The Causeway came into public ownership in 1963 when it was bought by the National Trust.

Mythology
Long ago, an Irish giant named Finn MacCool roamed the north coast, where he could look across the narrow sea of Moyle to Scotland. A Scottish giant, Benandonner, was Finn’s greatest rival, challenging his strength and reputation.

As the two giants had never met, Finn decided to invite Benandonner to Ireland, to engage in a decisive battle. There was no boat large enough to carry giants, so Finn built a causeway of huge stones across the water so that the Scottish giant could travel on dry land; thus he would have no excuse to avoid the confrontation.

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

These stained glass windows ads flashed my attention. I thought that stained glass windows were used exclusively for windows of churches and cathedrals. I never thought that someone could use it for advertising. I will put these ads on the top of my favorite ad campaign for this year. Tell me, what do you think of it?

Amnesty International: China Is Getting Ready

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

When I first saw these ads, I didn’t know much about Amnesty International and their mission in the world. After some digging I’ve learned that the Amnesty focus on five key areas: Women’s Rights, Children’s Rights, Ending Torture and Execution, Rights of Refugees and Rights of Prisoners of Conscience. Their primary mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of the rights to physical and mental integrity, freedom of conscience and expression, and freedom from discrimination, within the context of its work to promote all human rights.

In the name of ensuring stability and harmony in the country during the 2008 Olympic Games, the Chinese Government continues to detain and harass political activists, journalists, lawyers and human rights workers. Get involved www.amnesty.sk.”

Rome: I Came, I Saw, I Conquered

Monday, September 24th, 2007

“Veni, vidi, vici”, which means “I came, I saw, I conquered” was a famous Latin phrase by Julius Caesar. Today we gonna take a walk in the city of Rome. Did you know that the city of Rome was founded by the twin brothers, Romulus and Remus in 753 BC? Rome was the largest city in the world at the time of Emperor Augustus, and probably the largest ever built until the nineteenth century. After the fall of the Roman Empire, then followed World War II, Rome continued to expand. The official population stands at 2.7 million of residents. One of the chief industries of Rome is tourism. We can count numerous notable museums. The city is also the center for banking as well as electronics and aerospace industries. The original language of Rome was Latin, which evolved during the Middle Ages into Italian. Let’s continue our visit of Rome, and please stay with the group.
