Written on February 6, 2008 by KiwiPulse · Posted in Advertising · 13 Comments
What a creative and eye-catching advertising ad from Olympus to promote their E-3 in Korea. These men surely have the fastest autofocus mode when it comes to checking out the gorgeous woman! The Olympus E-3 was released in November 2007 claiming that its new 11-point biaxial cross type autofucus system is the world quickest autofocus camera. Along with its 1/8000sec shutter speed, 5fps and a 10mp sensor, this high-end gadget will retail for $1,700 . The company is truly back in the professional digital imaging arena with this digital SLR. Now, will you please excuse me for I have gotta get back to focusing on these birds flying around with my 6mp digital camera. And NO, my camera doesn’t have the fastest autofocus system!

Written on February 5, 2008 by KiwiPulse · Posted in Art · 3 Comments
If you haven’t notice yet the 2008 Summer Olympics will take place this summer in Beijing, China. The game officially known as the Games of the XXIX (29th) Olympiad will be celebrated from August 8 to 24. The traditional Olympic Torch Relay will begin from March 25 to August 8, 2008. The theme for the relay is “Journey of Harmony” and will last 130 days which the torch will travel 137,000 km. It will be the longest distance of any Olympic torch relay. They will also try an attempt to carry the flame to the top of Mount Everest. From Beijing, the torch will follow a route passing through six continents but most of it will be by air.
The torch for Beijing 2008 Olympic is designed by a team from Lenovo Group. Believe it or not Lenovo is the fourth largest personal computer manufacturer in the world. The Olympic Torch is based on traditional scrolls and uses a traditional Chinese design known as “Lucky Cloud“. The Torch is designed in reference to the traditional Chinese concept of the 5 elements that make up the entire universe. The 5 elements include: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth.

Hamburg: St. Pauli Elbe Tunnel
Written on February 4, 2008 by KiwiPulse · Posted in Architecture · 5 Comments
Hello lady and gentlemen today I will be your guide for the visit to Elbe tunnel in Hamburg, Germany. Please leave your cellphone at home because you won’t be needing it. First I need to explain to you that there exist two Elbe tunnels and both are located in Hamburg. The first one is the Alter Elbtunnel (Old Elbe tunnel) which is officially under the name of St. Pauli Elbe tunnel. It was opened in 1911 and it connects St. Pauli to St. EinwErDEr (excuse me for my bad pronunciation). The second one is the Neuer Elbtunnel (New Elbe tunnel) and it was opened in 1975. We will being visiting the Old Elbe tunnel.
The St. Pauli Elbe tunnel is a pedestrian and vehicle tunnel measuring 426 meters long. Each side of the tunnel have four huge lifts to carry pedestrians, carriages and motor vehicles. Although it’s in operation but with limited capacity by today’s standards, thus other advanced bridges and tunnels have taken over the majority of the traffic. With its attractive look, the old tunnel has turned into a tourist place. Its popularity has given it the opportunity to be featured in films such as The Odessa File and The American Friend. I have included two videos if you wish to experience the ride through the tunnel. You can either choose a slow ‘turtle ride’ or a fast ‘rabbit ride’. If desire, you can also experience both rides too. Have fun on your ride and I hope you’ve enjoyed the tour.

Panopticons: Singing Ringing Tree

This steel sculpture has won the National Award of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) for architectural excellence in 2007. The sculpture is set in the landscape of the Pennines overlooking Burnley, in the north west of England. It was designed by architects Mike Tonkin and Anna Liu of Tonkin Liu. This musical sculpture is called the Singing Ringing Tree because of the harmonic and singing qualities that the tree produce by tuning the pipes. It was constructed from pipes of galvanised steel, which with the help of the wind it produce a slightly discordant and penetrating choral sound covering a range of several octaves. This is just amazing. What an excellent staggering piece of iconic environmental art, as one gentlemen has commented on the video below. It will capture the imagination of everyone who sees it. The videos below will give more info about this amazing piece of art. You will also be able to hear the sound of this fabulous Sing Ringing Tree! :D
