Schick Quattro: The Power Of 4

Check out this ad campaign for the Schick Quattro shaver with the Power of 4 blades. What a clever idea with subliminal message integrated in each ad. I think each ad have a double meaning to it. For all three ads, the first message is that the shaver is extremely sharp with its powerful blades. Can you guess what the second message is for each ad?
Obviously…men look more attractive and sexy with a clean shave.

Greenpeace: Everyone’s Entitled To An Opinion
Written on April 11, 2008 by KiwiPulse · Posted in Advertising · 14 Comments
I’m very happy today, do you know why? The weather is finally getting nicer and I can feel that it is going to stay that way. This year have been the longest winter season I have experienced in my whole life. Can you believe that last week it was still snowing in Canada? It’s suppose to be the spring time where we can see the bunnies hopping around on the grass and eating some Romanesco broccoli. Just trying to be humorous! Let’s get serious now…my first thought of the warm weather approaching was that are we going to face severe climate change this year?
This reminds me of the message that Al Gore was trying to tell us in his documentary “An Inconvenient Truth”. If we do nothing about it now, it will be too late. We need Heroes that can save our world…Save the cheerleader, Save the world? I wish that it can be that simple, but it’s not. We don’t have super powers that can easily save our planet. But if we all work together we can make a big difference. If we care about our planet, we need to act now to make it a better place!
Why didn’t people vote for Al Gore instead of re-electing George W. Bush? It wasn’t me that contribute to Bush’s win because I’m not a U.S citizen. If you voted for George W. Bush I would like to know why!
OK, that’s enough with my opinion. Check out the ad campaign below entitled “Everyone is Entitled to an Opinion” which was commissioned by Greenpeace by a Chinese firm in Beijing, China. How ironic? Yes we all agreed that the Chinese are entitled to an opinion…just as long as it’s authorized by the government. And what’s more ironic is that Greenpeace, an environmental group, hired an ad agency from a country that’s famous for polluting the environment. What is your take on this ad campaign?

Grand Theft Auto IV: Paradis In Liberty City
Written on April 10, 2008 by KiwiPulse · Posted in Video · 11 Comments
One of the games that I have been following and playing is Grand Theft Auto (GTA). On April 29, 2008 the fourth release of GTA will be available to everyone on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. You have probably heard of this game because Rockstar have been marketing the game heavily using different forms of media which includes television ads, internet videos, viral marketing and a redesigned website.
The game will be set in Liberty City which is heavily based on two U.S cities, New York City and New Jersey. It’s the story of Niko Bellic, an Eastern European in his mid 30s, who was persuaded to move to Liberty City by his cousin, Roman. Roman claimed that he was living a fabulous life in a mansion with sexy women, hot tubs and sports cars. Niko, with his own personal problems at home, decided to come to Liberty City to pursue the “American Dream”. Roman’s claims turn out to be lies to hide his own failures. In reality he only owns a small taxi business and is heavily in debt with a lot of people chasing after him. That’s why he wants Niko to work for him. He desperately needs Niko’s support, hence the reason he deceived Niko into travelling to Liberty City. Together they seek to pursue gangster glory in a chaotic and violent world.

Ghent University: Dare To Think
Written on April 8, 2008 by KiwiPulse · Posted in Advertising · 21 Comments
This ad campaign created by Saatchi & Saatchi for Ghent University makes me laugh and in a way clueless! Ghent University is located in the historic town of Ghent in Belgium. It’s one of the largest university in Belgium with over 30,000 students and 6,400 staff members.
I don’t think the ads below are effective at all. What messages are they trying to convey? I will let you guess what wrong with the pictures. I am absolutely clueless about the last ad, I don’t know what to make of it. Maybe you will be able to figure it out.
Do you dare to think?

Romanesco Broccoli: Unclassifiable Broccoli
Written on April 7, 2008 by KiwiPulse · Posted in Various · 12 Comments
Since my childhood, I have been eating all kinds of vegetables such as cabbages, broccolis, brussel sprouts, cauliflowers, collard greens, etc. But nobody had ever exposed me with this alien engineered vegetable, the Romanesco broccoli. The Romanesco broccoli was first documented in Italy (as broccolo romanesco) in the sixteenth century (the century when the alien engineered it!). In Italy there are a number of recipes dedicated to Romanesco broccoli, but in the rest of the world it is usually prepared like normal broccoli.
I have always thought that veggies are ordinary until I came across this true marvel of nature. So intrigued by this veggie I decided to research more about it and discovered that they are selling seeds of this veggie on Amazon. That’s not all, I also found a near cousin to the Romanesco broccoli, the Purple Cauliflower. Maybe Barney the purple dino would want to try the purple cauliflower. I will definately buy these veggies if they are available in my local grocery store, not so much for eating but more for decorating my kitchen.
