Prime Personal Banking: Time And Life

With a first glance at these ads, I’ll bet that you would think this ad campaign is for watches. It would make sense if it was from a watch company, but actually it was launched by a bank to promote personal banking. Although the art direction is impressive and creative just like the IG and Renault Megane Cabriolet ad campaigns, but the message once again is very cloudy. What are they trying to tell us?

Time and Life. If you don’t have the first, you don’t have the second.

Time for skiing…

Sculpture: Angel of the North

Some may think that angels does not exist while others have strong belief in angels. In many religions they are symbol of guardian or warrior. In Christianity, angles are the Holy Spirit which sculptures of them can be found in churches around the world.

I have found a perfect angel that is unforgettable. It’s a modern sculpture designed by internationally renowned sculptor Antony Gormley, named “Angel of the North”. This gigantic sculpture is located in Gateshead, United Kingdom. It is made from 200 tonnes of Corten (I think it’s some kind of steel). This sculpture stands 66 feets tall ( 20 metres) but what is so impressive is that the wing span of the angel is 175 feets ( 54 metres ) almost as big as a jumbo jet! The work of the sculpture started in July 1997 offsite and it was assembled on site seven months later in February 1998. What is also cool is that it will last for more than 100 years. The price is 800, 000 British pounds if you can afford it!

The Angel of the North aroused some controversy locally when it was finished. People were asking why an angel? The only response they received was that ‘no one has ever seen one and we need to keep imagining them’. Well whether people like it or not it is now considered by some as a landmark for North East of England. It is also one of the 12 official Icons of England. More than 90 000 visitors every day or 33 million every year…no wonder it’s the most viewed pieces of art in the world!

MUNNY: You Can Do Anything You Want!

Need a mini project to keep you or your kids busy? Why not use your creativity and make your own MUNNY? A MUNNY is an action figure made out of vinyl and has movable joints. It’s the invention of an American designer from a toy company called Kidrobot. As stated on http://www.kidrobot.com under the About MUNNY section:

  • MUNNY is here so you can do amazing stuff and see how great you really are.
  • MUNNY believes you can do so many things.
  • MUNNY is your best friend.
  • You can paint on MUNNY and draw on MUNNY. You can dress MUNNY up and you can dress MUNNY down. You can make stuff for MUNNY to hold and you bulid stuff to make MUNNY bold. You can cut MUNNY and pierce MUNNY and glue stuff to MUNNY. Or you can keep MUNNY just the way MUNNY is.

MUNNY comes in white, black, pink and glow in the dark green. This means that you can use whatever available around you to customize your own MUNNY. You can use pens, pencils, markers, paint, and supposedly ketchup or anything that you’ve got.

The original MUNNY is white in color, stands 7 inches tall and weighs about 1 pound. Since February of 2008, you can buy the MINI-MUNNY which only stands about 4 inches tall for only $10 US. If you prefer your MUNNY bigger you can choose the MEGA-MUNNY which stands about 18 inches tall for around $200 US.

Below are pictures taken during some of the MUNNY shows around the world. Also check out the cool videos.

Renault Megane Cabriolet: Look Up More Often

These ceilings below have got to be the most beautiful ceilings that I have ever seen in my life. Just spectacular and brilliant architectural art! Now putting the appreciation for the artful ceilings aside, this ad campaign is quite confusing and weak in execution (no wonder… it’s from the same marketing agency as the previous post for IG).

Renualt, a multi-brand volume car maker, who conceives, designs, manufactures and markets attractive, safe, environmentally-friendly vehicles (as stated on their website) launched this ad campaign suggesting drivers to ‘look up more often’ while driving …And maybe ‘look up more often’ at the cathedral ceilings while cruising around in the buildings with their Megane Cabriolet convertible. Not so good of an idea, I think!

First, aren’t we supposed to drive looking straight ahead? Second, isn’t driving an outdoor activity on the road? Third, isn’t this about advertising a convertible then how come there is just a small picture of it on each of the prints? I am very impressed with the artwork, but not so much with the slogan and execution.
