Chupa Chups: 50th Anniversary
Written on October 11, 2008 by KiwiPulse · Posted in Advertising, Video · 3 Comments
At a first glance of these ad, I though this was advertising chimney or a cartoon show. But actually these ads are from a candy company called Chupa Chups. Almost everyone will remember seeing Chupa Chups lollipops in convenient stores and sure had tried one or two. I used to like them a lot when I was a kid…more like addicted to it. If I were to track all the pennies I spent on lollipops when I was a little kid, I would have to say that a big share went to Chupa Chups’ pocket. :P
Chupa Chups is a very well recognized candy brand ranging from lollipop, pop, lolly, sucker, to sticky-pop. These candies mainly consist of hardened, flavored sucrose with corn syrup mounted on a stick and intended for sucking or licking. The company started out as a Spanish lollipop company founded by a Barcelona native, Enric Bernat, in 1958. Currently it is owned by the Dutch-Italian multinational corporation Perfetti Van Melle. The company is now selling over 4 billion lollipops per year in 150 countries.
The famous international lollipop company celebrated its 50th anniversary this year. For this occasion, the brand known and loved by children of all ages has launched the festivities by offering fans a collector’s site that looks back at 50 years of history at chupachups.com. They say if you had Chupa Chups before then you speak Chupa Chups. Do you speak Chupa Chups? Yes, I do!

Smoking Is The Stupidest Way To Commit Suicide
Written on October 7, 2008 by KiwiPulse · Posted in Advertising · 6 Comments
I have been a smoker for over 10 years now. I would say that it’s the biggest mistake I have made in my life. Back in the ‘teen’ day I started smoking because I wanted to look cool and older than I was. Plus everyone around my circle of friends was smoking. Like breathing in fresh air everyday, it has became for me a natural thing to do. As time passed, I realized that life is VERY short and we should do our best to be healthy as long as we can to enjoy what life has to offer. I once heard from an elder that being healthy when you are old is priceless.
The advertising campaign below is quite harsh by calling smokers “stupid’. I don’t think that smokers have the intention to commit suicide when lighting up a cigarette. It’s more of an addiction than anything else.

Pantene: More Than Just A Shampoo

I guess i don’t really need to tell you what is the conditioning shampoo Pantene. If you have a TV at home, I’m pretty sure you have already seen one of their ads with a woman model showing nice long hair. They started producing Pantene print and television ads in the late 80s with the following slogan, “Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful”. It’s totally different from what we see today with the magic stick in Photoshop. To be honest with you, I though the ad campaign below was a Wonderbra ad. But of course I was wrong, your hair will be the second thing I will look at if you have two pair of boobs bigger than my head.

Brazilian Press Association: Freedom of Speech
Written on October 5, 2008 by KiwiPulse · Posted in Advertising, Video · 9 Comments
I’m glad to live in my country which is Canada where we can speak freely without censorship or limitation. Knowing the truth tends to always fix the root problem than lying to people until they discover the truth by themselves. How would you feel if your government is always lying to you, making promises that will never happened?
Not only in China where people can’t hold opinions without interference and people has always been fighting for freedom of speech. But in Brazil they also have been fighting for freedom of speech for over 100 years now. Freedom of speech in this country or in any other countries is important because it’s a significant impact in the quality of governance of a country. It’s important that the honest citizens have the right to participate in selecting their government without being controlled of what they can say or do. Still today, the right to freedom of speech is not absolute in some countries and the right is usually subject to limitations.
The right to freedom of speech is recognized as human right under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It is also being recognized under the international human rights law in the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
