Alexa: KiwiPulse Reached The Rank Of 100,000

March 9, 2008 – 1:14 am | Written by KiwiPulse

I am proud to announce that Kiwipulse has reached one of its 10 goals early this week. The objective was to reach the mark of the top 100,000 on Alexa Rank. Surprisingly, Kiwipulse did extremely well by passing the 100,000 mark with 92,418 in traffic rank this week! For your information Alexa is well known for its free powerful tool used to rank websites traffic. It is a subsidiary company of Amazon.com which was acquired in 1999 for about $250 million (in Amazon stocks that is).

The way Alexa works is really simple. It is based on the visits from the Alexa Toolbar users in which the toolbar is integrated with Internet Explorer, Mozilla and Netscape. In other words Alexa will analyze the web usage of millions of Alexa Toolbar users and then the information is sorted, sifted, anonymized, counted, and computed. Finally they will release the new ranking of each website via their Alexa service. The traffic rank is based on three months of aggregated historical traffic data from millions of Alexa Toolbar users and is a combined measure of page views and users.

Traffic rankings of 100,000+ is regarded as not reliable. Kiwipulse want to stay away from the ‘not reliable’ status, thus has worked effortlessly to reach the 100, 000 mark. Mission accomplished! The closer a website gets to #1, the more reliable its rank.

On a monthly basis Kiwipulse received on average over 30,000 of unique visitors and the numbers just keep increasing. But from time to time, the popular posts would increase the number of unique visitors to 15,000 on a daily basis. The main traffic driver for the popular posts was from StumbleUpon. Thanks to all who have stumbled Kiwipulse’s posts. If you have experienced the traffic from StumbleUpon you know that it’s a crazy way to increase the traffic for your blog.

Kiwipulse would like to thank all of you who have been following the website since the beginning. Without your support and participation, whether that’s by commenting, providing tips and feedback, or donating, Kiwipulse would probably not be here blogging the things that ROCK YOUR WORLD (mine as well…).

One thing that bloggers and Entrecard users should know is that Entrecard is ruining how Alexa ranks sites (mainly blogs). Some Entrecard members are using Entrecard to boost up the Alexa rank so much, but the content on the blog absolutely SUCKS!

Thank guys! Like I said, I will never be able to reach that rank if nobody is participating on my blog. That’s why its important to have a community that support you or else you will be stuck at the same point.

Glad to see you hit that milestone. Alexa can be a tough one to crack as you need the right readers for it to work with the Alexa toolbar.

I am getting closer but I have done that before and actually broke the 100,000 mark. But…

… then I did something to tick of Google and they slapped me down to a PR0 and my Alexa started moving back up again until my PR came back, now it is moving lower again, finally.

Congratulations! And with that many visitors, your Alexa rank will keep getting better.

I got to 87,000 at one point but I’ve dropped off to 112,000 over the last couple of months when I haven’t had time to post much.

Interestingly, my traffic stayed about the same (around about 6000 unique visitors per month) even though I wasn’t posting. It may be that social traffic was replaced by search traffic and the search traffic are less likely to have Alexa toolbars, or it may be that it it’s getting tougher to rank well in Alexa (ie 6000 won’t get you as high now as it did a few months ago).

Thanks for the information on alexia - I knew it was a popular tool, but never have taken the time to explore the indicators it monitors. congrats on meeting your goals! I’m also impressed by the high page rank on this site. I’ll have to take a closer look at it

You seem to have dropped to 120,337; at least for three-month-average. This is still pretty good, though - congratulations!

Alexa’s ranking system is open to serious dispute. Their results are heavily skewed towards marketing, advertising and related websites and blogs. They’ve had a recent algorithm update, which should reflect in their rankings of sites. How much remains to be seen.
