Amnesty International: 60th anniversary Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Written on January 4, 2009 by KiwiPulse - Posted in Advertising

On 10th December 2008, people all over the world celebrated Human Rights Day and the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Every human has rights. That is the essence of our humanity. It places on each of us the duty to stand up, not just for our own rights but also for those of others - and to help turn the vision of the UDHR into a reality. That is the spirit of international solidarity. That is the true meaning of universal, indivisible human rights.

On this significant anniversary, people gathered together in hundreds of places all over the globe, to light a candle, fire or flame as part of a mass demonstration. On Human Rights Day, we stood up for human rights and showed our solidarity with people all over the world who are committed to making human rights a reality for everyone.

Fire Up!

You can do more than celebrate.
60 years of the universal declaration of human rights.

Those are some very thought provoking images, even disturbing ones. But then it is the job of Amnesty to increase awareness and by showing the world brutality and injustice that so many people live with on a day to day basis.

As a proud South African who grew up during the apartheid years I can’t make my feelings on the human rights issue felt strongly enough. Amnesty International is doing great work and this is an awesome campaign. It sure creates awareness.

This is indeed a great post on a subject that needs much more attention that it deserves. The list of places and regimes that trample all over human rights does not seem to be going down. On the contrary, it seems to be increasing.

I like the idea behind those cake images. A call to action. Not just to celebrate the day, but to do something to move forward the cause.

I agree with you Fernando. And I agree with this sentence “Every human has rights”. But, You all now how much one life worth in let say Nigeria or Somalia. They work for 5$ a month and they can’t drink water and die very young because of that. Where are there “human rights”.
