Have you heard of the saying: “I don’t know much about art, but I know what I like”? I can’t remember the author of this saying but it makes sense. The more exposure I have to art, the more admiration I have for each unique and exquisite piece of art. Blogging has given more opportunity to visit artists’ websites, museums, galleries, art schools. This experience has not only open my mind to art but it also inspire me to seek for more beautiful pieces to admire.
Through my journey of searching I came across some great pieces (see below). What’s special about the website that offer these pieces is that it’s a place where artists can offer their artwork to the world; it’s like an art market where you can buy and sell art. Art admirers can view all kinds of artworks, from paintings to photography and more, by various talented artists. The artists of the website called this venture The Art Project; a place where artists will benefit in every way and where art lovers can buy artwork online with reasonable prices.
Art isn’t always pretty, some are difficult or even painful to look at. Try to see beneath the surface of the object, to imagine the artist’s experience while making it, his or her unique viewpoint. Enter the experience with an open mind and you will leave with a fresh perspective.
I am not much of an artist, but if you are I encourage you to submit your work. Who knows…you might be able to sell art online successfully!
Helly-go-round

Like everyone else, I am also wondering if there is life on Mars. Recently with the Phoenix mission to explore the planet Mars, researchers have discovered that there’s ice on the red planet. This is fascinating news because where there is water, there is a good chance that there might be or might have been life on Mars.
But for now…there’s one Martian fighting machine on Earth in the town of Woking, located west of Surrey, England. His code name: The Woking Martian. Why they called it The Woking Martian? Simply because Woking was chosen as the location for the sculpture due to its historical connections. H. G. Wells, the author of the novel “The War of the Worlds” lived in the town. This best-known science fiction novel describes an invasion of England by aliens from Mars which has influenced many people and spawned many films, radio dramas, comic books and even a television series based on the story.
The Woking Martian sculpture was created by Michael Condron and unveiled in April 1998. Made with chrome plated stainless steel this sculpture is 7 meters tall with legs 17 centimeters in diameter. Next to the statue there’s a caption:
THE WOKING MARTIAN 1998 BY MICHEAL CONDRON. THIS SCULPTURE WAS UNVEILED BY THE MAYOR OF WOKING, CLLR. MRS IRENE MATTHEWS APRIL 1998.THIS SCULPTURE IS THE ARTIST’S INTERPRETATION OF A “WALKING ENGINE OF GLITTERING METAL”. IT CELEBRATES WOKING AS THE BIRTHPLACE OF MODERN SCIENCE-FICTION AND MARKS THE CENTENARY OF H.G.WELLS ‘FIRST EDITION OF’ THE WAR OF THE WORLDS. IN THIS PIONEERING NOVEL HUMANITY IS SAVED FROM AN OVERWHELMING MARTIAN INVASION BY EARTH’S SMALLEST CREATURES, BACTERIA.

Some may think that angels does not exist while others have strong belief in angels. In many religions they are symbol of guardian or warrior. In Christianity, angles are the Holy Spirit which sculptures of them can be found in churches around the world.
I have found a perfect angel that is unforgettable. It’s a modern sculpture designed by internationally renowned sculptor Antony Gormley, named “Angel of the North”. This gigantic sculpture is located in Gateshead, United Kingdom. It is made from 200 tonnes of Corten (I think it’s some kind of steel). This sculpture stands 66 feets tall ( 20 metres) but what is so impressive is that the wing span of the angel is 175 feets ( 54 metres ) almost as big as a jumbo jet! The work of the sculpture started in July 1997 offsite and it was assembled on site seven months later in February 1998. What is also cool is that it will last for more than 100 years. The price is 800, 000 British pounds if you can afford it!
The Angel of the North aroused some controversy locally when it was finished. People were asking why an angel? The only response they received was that ‘no one has ever seen one and we need to keep imagining them’. Well whether people like it or not it is now considered by some as a landmark for North East of England. It is also one of the 12 official Icons of England. More than 90 000 visitors every day or 33 million every year…no wonder it’s the most viewed pieces of art in the world!

Need a mini project to keep you or your kids busy? Why not use your creativity and make your own MUNNY? A MUNNY is an action figure made out of vinyl and has movable joints. It’s the invention of an American designer from a toy company called Kidrobot. As stated on http://www.kidrobot.com under the About MUNNY section:
- MUNNY is here so you can do amazing stuff and see how great you really are.
- MUNNY believes you can do so many things.
- MUNNY is your best friend.
- You can paint on MUNNY and draw on MUNNY. You can dress MUNNY up and you can dress MUNNY down. You can make stuff for MUNNY to hold and you bulid stuff to make MUNNY bold. You can cut MUNNY and pierce MUNNY and glue stuff to MUNNY. Or you can keep MUNNY just the way MUNNY is.
MUNNY comes in white, black, pink and glow in the dark green. This means that you can use whatever available around you to customize your own MUNNY. You can use pens, pencils, markers, paint, and supposedly ketchup or anything that you’ve got.
The original MUNNY is white in color, stands 7 inches tall and weighs about 1 pound. Since February of 2008, you can buy the MINI-MUNNY which only stands about 4 inches tall for only $10 US. If you prefer your MUNNY bigger you can choose the MEGA-MUNNY which stands about 18 inches tall for around $200 US.
Below are pictures taken during some of the MUNNY shows around the world. Also check out the cool videos.
