El Ateneo: Library In A Theatre
Posted in Architecture
If you get the chance to spend some time in Buenos Aires, Argentina. You could visit this well-known bookstore, El Ateneo Grand Splendid. What makes this bookstore so special is the fact that it was installed in a luxury theatre. The theatre was build in 1919 by the empresario Max Glücksman and have a capacity of 1050 seats. Many artists have performed in his new theatre until they converted it into a cinema in 1929 and have presented the first movie ever with sound.
By the end of the twenty century, for commercial purposes, the theatre was partially renovated into a book and music shop. The seats were removed but the painted ceiling, ornate carvings, crimson stage curtains, auditorium lighting and many architectural details remained. We can still feel the atmosphere of the grand theatre after all. The bookstore have only a small selection of English books. I guess you are not the kind of customer they are looking for. If the cashier look at you strangely, you will know why.

Thanks. Another good reason to visit Buenas Aires.
Thanks guys for your support. While my blog was down, I learned a lot about what really blogging is. Everyone wish to have a successful blog and when the time come, we never know what to do exactly. Sure, you need a bigger hosting plan than a shared hosting plan and finding the right one is not easy. You have to deal with the backup and transferring your data. Switch your domain to the new server and finally setup your new server. It can take at least one week before everything work normally.
My daily traffics went down and im not surprised. Thats the bad things when you deal with a bad hosting company. I learned my lessons and shopping around for a hosting company is very important or else you will need to deal with that soon or later.
I’m so happy to come back and see all the good news about my blog ranking.
Google PageRank: 0 to 4
Alexa Rank: 111,062 ( Almost near the top 100,000 )
Technorati Rank: 38,213
Thats only with 52 posts and 336 comments since July 2007.

this has been the first time I have been able to view your blog without my IE7 going down…..so I’m happy to say your new host is a lot friendlier for my computer ..
It’s breathtaking. I’m from Argentina, and I used to live just two blocks away from there. Heck, my school was just around the corner.
I didn’t even know that the Grand Splendid had turned into an “El Ateneo”, and I’m amazed at how beautiful it looks.
With your permission, I’m going to post about this in my blog, and I will make sure you get all the credit for this…
Happy Holidays,
Gabriel
I did post about it, and -as I had said- gave the credit to you. Sadly, my readers got messages coming from your website accusing me of stealing your bandwidth, so I ended having to link directly to Flickr.
Hi Gabriel, You can’t hotlink my pictures. I’m paying for my hosting, I use to post a lot of pictures. I can’t allow people stealing my bandwidth. Add a link to my article, you will be fine.
