Over 20 years of research scientists at University of Alberta have concluded that red squirrels are able to predict when there will be plentiful of nuts on the trees they feast on. To take advantage of the harvest season about to occur, they remarkably produce more babies to give them a hand. So when all the nuts in the world are gone into the finest chocolates…they decided to commit suicide!

The idea for this ad campaign is NUTS! But overall well executed. What do you think?

Blog Oh! Blog:Win a Sony PlayStation 3 + A Game http://www.kiwipulse.com/blog-oh-blog-win-a-sony-playstation-3-a-game/ http://www.kiwipulse.com/blog-oh-blog-win-a-sony-playstation-3-a-game/#comments Wed, 14 May 2008 23:29:04 +0000 KiwiPulse http://www.kiwipulse.com/blog-oh-blog-win-a-sony-playstation-3-a-game/ Do you know what time is it? It’s time for KiwiPulse Dot Com to enter to another contest and hopefully still have the luck to once again win. The contest is from one of my favorite blog, Blog Oh! Blog, which I have been following since I started KiwiPulse Dot Com. It’s also where I got my Wordpress theme, Bob Version 1, in the archive section of Free Wordpress Themes.

Before getting into the details about the contest I would like to share some interesting facts about Blog Oh! Blog. The blog is owned by Jai Nischal Verma, a web developer based in New Delhi, India. Jai bought Blog Oh! Blog from the founder, Bob Jiwakacau, for $10K at a Sitepoint auction back in 2007. I have to say that he did a good job maintaining the blog and adding a variety of new premium Wordpress themes . Recently he released the Bob Version 3 theme, which of course is a must have item for bloggers…that’s why I planning to upgrade to version 3 very soon! Bob Version 3 is fully-loaded WorPress 2.5 compatible theme which comes with nifty JavaScript components to highlight contents more effectively.

Now here are the details…To thank all his blog readers, Jai is giving everyone a golden chance to bring home a brand new Sony PlayStation 3 plus a free PS3 video game of choice. The PlayStation 3 console is worth ~$400 and the video game is worth approximately $60. The prize will be shipped from Amazon, so wherever you are in the world you will be able to receive it ( that’s only if you win… ).

The deadline for the contest is May 21 2008. To participate in the contest you will need to follow the instructions and rules below (as stated by Jai on his blog) :

  • Post a review of Blog Oh! Blog on your website or blog including a link to this contest.
  • The review should be a minimum of 200 words.
  • Make a comment on this contest and mention the link to your post.
  • Subscribe to our RSS Feed if you haven’t done so already. (To track this contest)
  • A single blogger is allowed only one entry to the contest.
  • Finally, you should NOT be an owner of a PS3 already (just kidding :) ). Everyone is free to join the contest!

Remember if you do not participate, you have ZERO chance to win! Good luck everyone! :P

Surfrider: Beach Pollution Into Perspective http://www.kiwipulse.com/surfrider-beach-pollution-into-perspective/ http://www.kiwipulse.com/surfrider-beach-pollution-into-perspective/#comments Sat, 10 May 2008 16:15:24 +0000 KiwiPulse http://www.kiwipulse.com/surfrider-beach-pollution-into-perspective/ Do you know how clean our beaches and oceans are? The best people to ask is surely the Surfrider Foundation, a non-profit environmental organization whose main focus is the protection and enjoyment of the world’s oceans, waves and beaches for all people through conservation, activism, research and education. The organization was founded in 1984 by a handful of visionary surfers in Malibu, California. Today the Surfrider Foundation have over 50,000 members and 80 chapters worldwide.

They bring us this ad campaign from Saatchi & Saatchi with all kinds of surprises that we may find in our beaches and oceans. Will you enjoy your time on the beach with these Catch of the Day? :???:

To put beach pollution into perspective, trash was collected from various beaches, packaged it to look like seafood and displayed it at local farmers’ markets. This is the print extension for those who couldn’t actually make it to the market.

ALAC: Was Last Night Really Worth It? http://www.kiwipulse.com/alac-was-last-night-really-worth-it/ http://www.kiwipulse.com/alac-was-last-night-really-worth-it/#comments Mon, 05 May 2008 09:03:37 +0000 KiwiPulse http://www.kiwipulse.com/alac-was-last-night-really-worth-it/ I always thought that my body can handle up to 24 pack of beer by occasion. Well to be frank…I never reach more than 8 beers and with some shooters I will sure fall asleep in no time. The ad campaign below brought by ALAC ( The Alcohol Advisory Council of New Zealand ) are trying to change the drinking culture that costs the country greatly. They are delivering a message that” it’s not the drinking, it’s how we’re drinking.” As explained on their website: ” We don’t drink in a measured fashion. We bank our drinking and we spend it all at once and this is when the most harm happens.”

I have visited their website and found a lot of helpful information that I didn’t know before which will help me to drink more safely during my next hockey playoff games with friends. I am sure everyone will find the info on the website helpful as well. One message from their website stand out in my mind and I would like to share it with everyone: “Drinking alcohol is your choice, you choose whether to make it good or bad. Listen to your body and think about your limit - and tomorrow morning”.

Kofukan Therapy Center: Press To Relax http://www.kiwipulse.com/kofukan-therapy-center-press-to-relax/ http://www.kiwipulse.com/kofukan-therapy-center-press-to-relax/#comments Sat, 03 May 2008 19:30:59 +0000 KiwiPulse http://www.kiwipulse.com/kofukan-therapy-center-press-to-relax/ When I first saw this ad from Kofukan Therapy Center in Brazil, I wasn’t clear about the message on the poster; “Press to Relax”. After some research I found that they are advertising a new technique of massage called “Shiatsu“. By pressing on the poster you will hear a popping noise similar to the ribs cracking on the body. What a clever idea to put two sheets of bubble wrap behind the poster to create such noise effect!

Shiatsu is a Japanese massage tradition with “Shi” meaning finger and “atsu” meaning pressure. The Shiatsu technique refers to the use of fingers and palm of one’s hand to apply pressure to particular sections on the surface of the body for the purpose of correcting the imbalances of the body and for maintaining and promoting health. It is also a method contributing to the healing of specific illnesses. It was discovered by Tokujiro Namikoshi when he was 7 years old while treating his mother’s rheumatoid arthritis with only his thumbs and palms. He later founded the Japan Shiatsu College in Tokyo in 1940. Many of his graduates now practice in Japan and overseas. He died at the age of 95 in 2000, but people will remember him as the great shiatsu master.

I think the technique must be very effective for maintaining and promoting health, since it has been around for so long. In my mind getting a good massage include an experienced massage therapist and the right atmosphere i.e. lighting and temperature. And last but no least, getting pressed on the right spot!

Amnesty International: Beijing 2008 http://www.kiwipulse.com/amnesty-international-beijing-2008/ http://www.kiwipulse.com/amnesty-international-beijing-2008/#comments Thu, 01 May 2008 05:36:32 +0000 KiwiPulse http://www.kiwipulse.com/amnesty-international-beijing-2008/ You have probably seen the latest campaign from Amnesty International that I published back in September 2008, China is getting ready. They are at it again with another ad; the razor barbed wire around the torch. It seems that the campaign was a success because all the news channels are covering the handful of protests surrounding the International Olympic Torch Relay this month. China is the world’s leader in the use of the death penalty. What the Amnesty International are asking for are positive changes such as a reform of the death penalty system, a greater reporting freedom for foreign journalists (who have been overshadowed by stalled reform of detention without trial), repression of human rights defenders and Internet censorship. Is it too much to ask from the world most populated country?

Yes I can tell you I have personally experienced Internet censorship from them. When the post, China is getting ready, first got published Kiwipulse received over 5,000 visitors from a Chinese Forum. The title of the post on the forum was “Look How The Outsider Think About Us”. Then I noticed that my link from that article was removed. I didn’t understand why until I found out that one of the forum’s policies is not to allow any links from outsiders. If I understand this clearly; they don’t like opening themselves to the world and our opinions are not welcome with wide open arms.

Recently, Amnesty International have published an article about the secrecy surrounding death penalty which says that at least 1,252 people were executed in 24 countries and at least 3,347 people were sentenced to death in 51 countries. Many more were simply killed by the state, in secret, in countries including China, Mongolia and Viet Nam. Do you think it will be safe in China during the summer Olympic?

Karma: Yoga Wear For All Levels http://www.kiwipulse.com/karma-yoga-wear-for-all-levels/ http://www.kiwipulse.com/karma-yoga-wear-for-all-levels/#comments Sun, 27 Apr 2008 05:22:48 +0000 KiwiPulse http://www.kiwipulse.com/karma-yoga-wear-for-all-levels/ Although I never took a yoga course before in my life but I think that people who wear yoga clothes looks more active and casual even if they don’t perform yoga. I guess it’s a way for some people to deceive others that they are fit! Below is an ad campaign by Rethink Communications for Karma, a clothing manufacturer specializing in athletic wear located in Vancouver, British Columbia. Since Karma introduced their new Bamboo line in February 2008, it was a breakout success. They are developing and expanding their eco-friendly line and luxury line featuring sumptuous cashmere blends. Rethink Communications has found a very creative way to demonstrate that yoga wear is for everyone!

Coca-Cola Zero: Real Coke Taste, Zero Sugar! http://www.kiwipulse.com/coca-cola-zero-real-coke-taste-zero-sugar/ http://www.kiwipulse.com/coca-cola-zero-real-coke-taste-zero-sugar/#comments Sat, 26 Apr 2008 06:22:42 +0000 KiwiPulse http://www.kiwipulse.com/coca-cola-zero-real-coke-taste-zero-sugar/ Coca Cola, the world’s largest soft drink manufacturer, have launched recently the new Coca Cola Zero. Their studies and research have shown that there are so many people who crave for the original Coca Cola taste, but don’t want the sugar. To please their customers (…and of course to cash in more revenue) the marketing plan for Coca Cola Zero has been designed to attract young men and women and the word “Zero” is to indicate that the new drink is completely sugar free. Can you also believe that they went all the way to customize the Coke Zero formulas to fit the different target market; this means that the ingredients will vary depending on the country.

Yes I have tried it myself and can confirmed that Coca Cola Zero tasted better than the old Coca Cola. They used aspartame instead of the high fructose corn syrup for sugar. Check out the funny videos below of their ad campaign using organs that can talk and taste. The brain is definitely more smarter than the one-side eye! Have you tasted the new Coca Cola Zero? Did you notice anything different? Is it better than the old Coca Cola?

Real Coke taste. Zero sugar.

Windows Live Spaces: Connect With The World http://www.kiwipulse.com/windows-live-spaces-connect-with-the-world/ http://www.kiwipulse.com/windows-live-spaces-connect-with-the-world/#comments Thu, 24 Apr 2008 00:24:45 +0000 KiwiPulse http://www.kiwipulse.com/windows-live-spaces-connect-with-the-world/ If you have been using MSN Messenger to chat or share media files and videos with friends and family, like I do for years, you will know that there is a feature on MSN Messenger that let you create your own space or blog to share photos, music and thoughts with others. This feature is called Windows Live Spaces (also known by its users as MSN Spaces). Personally I think it’s a nice social networking platform where you can start blogging. Of all the gadgets that are available for Windows Live Spaces users, my choice will definitely go to the “Windows Media Player” gadget. This gadget give you ability to play and display music and videos on their Windows Live Spaces.

I have added below their ad campaign to share with you all. I think that the theme in this ad campaign portray a meaningful and suitable message; you can create your own space where your friends and family on MSN Messenger can visit. Yes it’s a world where everybody knows each other.

Windows Live Spaces received an estimated 27 million unique visitors per month. I think I will create a new account with them and see if I can drive some traffic to KiwiPulse // Rock Your World. Do you have a Windows Live Spaces?

Again, a world where everybody knows each other.

Sprout: Build, Publish, Manage Web Content http://www.kiwipulse.com/sprout-build-publish-manage-web-content/ http://www.kiwipulse.com/sprout-build-publish-manage-web-content/#comments Sat, 19 Apr 2008 20:04:59 +0000 KiwiPulse http://www.kiwipulse.com/sprout-build-publish-manage-web-content/ You have probably noticed some changes to my blog this week. You’ve got it right, I have changed my advertising platform to an interactive slideshow which displays the hottest games to be released. It was my main project this week to improve Kiwipulse’s advertising platform. My first idea was to include video trailers of the soon to be released games from Youtube. I was then looking for a javascript or php script to easily manage all these data. But, I didn’t find anything that could fit with my idea. Then I came across a video (below) about Sprout Builder which got my attention and interest immediately! I signed up for an account with them which took one minute and I was ready to play with it.

What I like about Sprout Builder is that you have the capability to manage videos and pictures in the same frame, which will be displayed in Flash on your blog. After exploring the features and testing them on my blog, I discovered the video feature seem to have low image quality when displayed in Flash. Well they are still in Beta version so I will not ask for too much.

There are six pre-built templates which is perfect for blogs that are talking about sports, causes, personal topics, or politicians. As you know, my blog covers a variety of subjects. So I started building my Sprout from scratch which allows me to maximize my creativity and have the flexibility to customize the design and content. I can choose from over dozens of standard sizes or create my own size. Sprout comes with advanced components that you can add by simply dragging and dropping. You can add videos, pictures, slideshows, jukeboxes, RSS Feeds, PollDaddy, Google Graph, Ribbit, Chipin and more. Then when you are done building with your Sprout, you can easily publish it using the quick post feature to place on your blog or social networking profile. It is that simple! I love Sprout Builder!

Pain Without Borders: Put An End To Endless Pain http://www.kiwipulse.com/pain-without-borders-put-an-end-to-endless-pain/ http://www.kiwipulse.com/pain-without-borders-put-an-end-to-endless-pain/#comments Sat, 19 Apr 2008 00:26:14 +0000 KiwiPulse http://www.kiwipulse.com/pain-without-borders-put-an-end-to-endless-pain/ How do you show endless pain in pictures? Simply show a wheel that never stop and put people suffering from endless pain on it. I don’t know if the ads will be effective but I like the ideas behind the organization that help people reducing their pain after a natural disaster or war. A big applause goes to Pain Without Borders, a French non-governmental organization supported by the World Health Organization and state-approved, for putting this ad campaign together.

The International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) defines pain as “an emotional and sensory experience unpleasant related to tissue damage existing or potential or described in terms of such damage.” There are two main types of pain; the sharp pain and the chronic pain. The sharp pain of short duration such as post-operative pain and post-traumatic pain is caused by certain acts and care. In general, chronic pain includes back pain, chronic headaches, and cancer-related neuropathic pain.

I am lucky I live in a country without war and extreme natural disasters. Have you experienced endless pain?

To put an end to endless pain. Make a donation.

What a clever idea with subliminal message integrated in each ad. I think each ad have a double meaning to it. For all three ads, the first message is that the shaver is extremely sharp with its powerful blades. Can you guess what the second message is for each ad?

Obviously…men look more attractive and sexy with a clean shave.

Greenpeace: Everyone’s Entitled To An Opinion http://www.kiwipulse.com/greenpeace-everyones-entitled-to-an-opinion/ http://www.kiwipulse.com/greenpeace-everyones-entitled-to-an-opinion/#comments Fri, 11 Apr 2008 13:13:33 +0000 KiwiPulse http://www.kiwipulse.com/greenpeace-everyones-entitled-to-an-opinion/ I’m very happy today, do you know why? The weather is finally getting nicer and I can feel that it is going to stay that way. This year have been the longest winter season I have experienced in my whole life. Can you believe that last week it was still snowing in Canada? It’s suppose to be the spring time where we can see the bunnies hopping around on the grass and eating some Romanesco broccoli. Just trying to be humorous! Let’s get serious now…my first thought of the warm weather approaching was that are we going to face severe climate change this year?

This reminds me of the message that Al Gore was trying to tell us in his documentary “An Inconvenient Truth”. If we do nothing about it now, it will be too late. We need Heroes that can save our world…Save the cheerleader, Save the world? I wish that it can be that simple, but it’s not. We don’t have super powers that can easily save our planet. But if we all work together we can make a big difference. If we care about our planet, we need to act now to make it a better place!

Why didn’t people vote for Al Gore instead of re-electing George W. Bush? It wasn’t me that contribute to Bush’s win because I’m not a U.S citizen. If you voted for George W. Bush I would like to know why!

OK, that’s enough with my opinion. Check out the ad campaign below entitled “Everyone is Entitled to an Opinion” which was commissioned by Greenpeace by a Chinese firm in Beijing, China. How ironic? Yes we all agreed that the Chinese are entitled to an opinion…just as long as it’s authorized by the government. And what’s more ironic is that Greenpeace, an environmental group, hired an ad agency from a country that’s famous for polluting the environment. What is your take on this ad campaign?

Everyone’s entitled to an opinion. Voice yours at forum.greenpeace.org

Grand Theft Auto IV: Paradis In Liberty City http://www.kiwipulse.com/grand-theft-auto-iv-paradis-in-liberty-city/ http://www.kiwipulse.com/grand-theft-auto-iv-paradis-in-liberty-city/#comments Thu, 10 Apr 2008 05:21:28 +0000 KiwiPulse http://www.kiwipulse.com/grand-theft-auto-iv-paradis-in-liberty-city/ One of the games that I have been following and playing is Grand Theft Auto (GTA). On April 29, 2008 the fourth release of GTA will be available to everyone on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. You have probably heard of this game because Rockstar have been marketing the game heavily using different forms of media which includes television ads, internet videos, viral marketing and a redesigned website.

The game will be set in Liberty City which is heavily based on two U.S cities, New York City and New Jersey. It’s the story of Niko Bellic, an Eastern European in his mid 30s, who was persuaded to move to Liberty City by his cousin, Roman. Roman claimed that he was living a fabulous life in a mansion with sexy women, hot tubs and sports cars. Niko, with his own personal problems at home, decided to come to Liberty City to pursue the “American Dream”. Roman’s claims turn out to be lies to hide his own failures. In reality he only owns a small taxi business and is heavily in debt with a lot of people chasing after him. That’s why he wants Niko to work for him. He desperately needs Niko’s support, hence the reason he deceived Niko into travelling to Liberty City. Together they seek to pursue gangster glory in a chaotic and violent world.

What I find interesting in this release is the Multiplayer feature which support 16 players. But the game only allows you to play deathmatch and racing game. As a big fan of this game, I can’t wait until it is released! Are you a fan of GTA games?

I don’t think the ads below are effective at all. What messages are they trying to convey? I will let you guess what wrong with the pictures. I am absolutely clueless about the last ad, I don’t know what to make of it. Maybe you will be able to figure it out.
