Food For A Week Around The World

Written on November 9, 2008 by KiwiPulse - Posted in Various

I feel very lucky to be in a country where food are abundance and we are not suffering from hunger. I can’t imagine my whole day trying to find food to survive. For some people in the world it’s a daily challenge. The sensation of hunger typically begins after a couple of hours without eating and is generally quite uncomfortable. Can you believe that the average person suffering from hunger can survive weeks without food intake. For example the magician David Blaine survived 44 days without food, losing one quarter of his body weight, but keeping a healthy body mass index.

In 1976 obese people were put on an experimental starvation diet, with absolutely no food, for 40 days and none of them had any trouble surviving. The result was that people can last much longer without eating than without drinking. It also depends on the initial body condition: a weak elderly person or thin young person might not be able to go very long without food. Without water anyone will run into problems pretty quickly. Their blood volume will shrink and their water and electrolyte balance will be upset. Eventually the body will just go into shock.

My family situation look very much like the family in the third picture below with a lot of junk foods. Even the poor African family are eating more healthier than us. :|

Very interesting post. Love the pictures. In India the food would differ from an urban home to a rural one. The urban family would be like the initial pics and the rural one like the latter ones.

This is fascinating. I just wish there was information along with each picture, what exactly the location of these families is.

What i find amazing is the amount of packaged drinks that the people in the first few photos use: do they drink any water at all?

Hi Nicole, I wanted to add those informations but I wasn’t that sure where they are coming from. But what I’m sure is that the pictures cover the people around the world. Okay let me guess..

1st picture: France, they eat lot of bread
2nd picture: Russian, they drink a lot of alcohol
3rd picture: American, they eat only junk food lol
4th picture: Sweden, they eat lot of chocolate
5th picture: mmm, some Arabic countries
6th picture: Peru? The way they dress they must live in the mountain in South America.
7th picture: Chinese, they don’t have any meat.. strange hein?
    8th picture: African.. :(

I will be curious to know what the rich people are eating in India then.. Maybe McDonald :P

Notice how the diet becomes less refined and much healthier the less developed the country. Soft drinks and junk foods don’t feature, and obesity is rare.

The third photograph was all fat and sugar. Wish that picture could have been of a southern family in the USA( assuming American by the products) and show how they (me) eat lots of cooked veggies , then the cake!!! 8)

Great photos. I agree with SEO Tips on the pictures. The less developed countries have less refined foods and mostly fruits and veggies. The interesting thing is that veggies and fruits are cheap in these countries where meat is much more expensive. It’s interesting that in America it is the complete opposite.

I think it is because most of the grains get grown to feed the cattle. I once saw a article on how much water it took to make a hamburger, with the irrigation of the grain and the drinking of the cow considered it was absolutely ghastly!

I’ve seen these pics before, accompanied by details and the daily/weekly budget of the families around the world, I just can’t remember where. Anyways, great post ans yes, let’s all be thankful for what we have :D

It is a pity that I missed out on this post. This is truly informative and speaks volumes about the skewed food situation in different parts of the world.

What an eye opener! We (Americans) are a total wreck when it comes to our diets. It’s shameful.

That was a very unusual & interesting post.I saw all the pictures & it was good to know about different people & amount of food being consumed by them, around the World.I really wish that someone some day goes out an carries out a search on what people on indian streets living in small shacks consume in a week or even a month, would be much-much less than this.I think these people ahould be highly thankful to the LORD

Really your family takes diverse food as the basket photo shows. But I have come to know some tips about findings to keep you healthy.

    @SEO tips:

There just isn’t room for obesity in such countries (no offense to anyone).

So much food is being thrown away in the USA and most of western Europe and it is really a shame.

I read of an organization in USA whose members provide food mostly from dumpsters behind restaurants and 90% of that food is great (nothing wrong with it).

We should always have in mind those less fortunate then us…

    Rados

  17. Nicole Price on December 6th, 2008 at 2:10 am

I think you are quite accurate in your guesses, I would have guessed the same except for the Chinese pic; I would have said Bhutanese because of their outfits.

My goal is to eat less this year in 2009. You can also save money on food that way.
