Google Adsense: How To Increase Your CTR
Written on January 21, 2008 by KiwiPulse - Posted in Various
For many of you, my fellow readers, who have followed my blog since the beginning, I would like to share with you that I earned my first $100 with Google Adsense with in the first two months of blogging. At that moment, my two main sources of traffic came from StumbleUpon and Google Search Engine. This generated over hundreds of thousands of visitors from StumbleUpon. You would think that I will eventually became rich with all the increase in traffic? That’s not so true, thus far I have earned nothing else from StumbleUpon other than traffic which increases my Alexa Rank. Other than the increase in traffic the users from StumbleUpon have the reputation of not clicking on ads.
How will we earn money from Google Adsense then? Well for me, it was applying tips given by other bloggers. With as little as 2% of traffic from Google, I managed to earn $100 with in two months! Before I started blogging, I have read from many other blogs as to how they made money with Google Adsense. They gave me enough good tips that helped me to generate some income. Today I will past these tips on to you so you can make money, as well as teach others the same in the future. Does this sound like a good deal?

Focus On Where Majority Of The Traffic Is Landing
You all will agree with me that if you want to generate more clicks on your ads, you need to know where most of your readers are landing on your blog, that way you know exactly where to place your ads to increase visibility and clicks. For example, if the readers are coming from Google Search and they going to one of your popular posts. You would want to make sure that you have Google Ads on those specific popular pages where traffic is heavy. They says locations, locations, locations is key!
Blend Your Ads With The Color Of Your Background
If you blend your Adsense ads in with the theme of your background, they will look ‘at home’ and the ads will perform better. You will certainly notice an increase in your AdSense Click-thru-Ratio (CTR) if you follow this advice. Even Google Adsense Help Center suggests the application:
“To increase the likelihood that your readers will see and click on your ads, blend your ad units into the background of your blog. Choose a bold color for the ad title to help draw attention to your ads, then make sure that the background and borders of your ads are the same color as the background of the area where the ad is placed.”
Also, do not use borders to your text ads. Ad units without borders and has matching background to the site background color always perform well over other ad units.
Use The Color Blue For Your Links
Why blue? Why not green, black, white, or yellow? The reason behind it is that blue is the default color for Hyperlink on the web so the majority of people will recognize it easily. It has been tested that the color blue will likely perform better than any other colors. Well, red works pretty well too because it catch (hurt) the eyes!
Hope this will help you in some ways or another. At the same time, have fun experimenting with Google Adsense!

I’m a hungarian guy, but I’m also a big fan of adsense.
These are good advices for a good ctr.
But if you have lot of visitors who don’t like click on ads (from Digg and StumbleUpon for example) you have to join to adsense CPM solution.
Your alexa rank is very good.
I think the color blue is more important than a lot of people think. I settled on that for the links on my blogs. It limits design a little, but design is only a tool used to pump up usability, at least in my opinion.

I have tried blending , and trying opposing colors to blogs , and I always end up with about the same amount of click throughs. Most times its very unpredictable. The only thing predictable is that its about $3 a day or so now.

Congratulations on reaching your first $100.00 with Adsense. I think earning it within two months is really good. The time you earn each $100.00 should shorten as time goes on. Good Luck. :)

Some very good points here. Location is not only important as to which posts you put the ads on but also where you put the ads. Using channels in Google Adsense I have found that a 250 px box place on the left side of my post is the best performer. In second place is banner ads above and below any pictures I post.

I get anywhere between 80 cents-$4 per day with an average of $40.month
So it ends up taking about 3 months to get paid.
I can’t seem to go any higher no matter how much traffic I get. I get about 150 unique visitors a day. I can’t explain why on some days I make so little. I have tried experimenting with colors but end up going back to “blend” when I notice I’m not getting hits half through the day. I get nothing from the Referral links and nothing from Amazon - so I have removed them. I have found that kontera is now equal to Adsense. So between the 2 I am getting about $80/mo. Can’t retire yet !

Although I never use Google Adsense because you have to be mindful of whatever else you put into your blog beside it, I think you have achieved the impossible of
earning anything.Congratulations.

Hey some really good advice here! I know all about blending, but I’d never thought about the link color.
I’ve never made much with Adsense, but I’m planning to get into it more and I’ve been reading a lot about it. What do you think about the smart pricing issue and the idea of only showing Adsense to search engine traffic? Is there any need to worry about that?
