The CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs, have recently introduced the new MacBook Air during the Macworld Expo Keynote address. Apple describes the new MacBook Air as ultrathin, ultraportable and ultra unlike anything else. This innovative invention didn’t just happen overnight. It’s the result of rethinking conventions, multiple wireless innovations and breakthrough design. This new device will redefine the mobile computing world with new set of standards.

The design of the MacBook Air is incredibly thin that it can fit in a letter size envelope. Yet, this tiny machine still managed to have a 13.3-inch widescreen LED display, full-size keyboard and large multi-touch trackpad.

The MacBook Air features a built-in iSight webcam, a full sized MacBook-style black keyboard with an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts brightness. Its trackpad adopts many of the innovative multi-touch gestures from the Apple iPhone, so you can perform many functions with your fingers. i.e. pinch, swipe or rotate by simply moving your fingers.

The MacBook Air is available in two versions with the following specs:

  • A MacBook Air 13-inch: 1.6 GHz with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB memory, 80GB 4200-rpm PATA hard drive and a Built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi2 and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. Pricing starts at $1799 and the Air will be shipping in two weeks.
  • A MacBook Air 13-inch: 1.8 GHz with Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB memory, 64GB solid-state drive and a Built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi2 and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. Pricing starts at $3098 and the Air will be shipping in two weeks.

I hope they will not deliver this ultrathin and ultraportable new MacBook Air in an envelope!

The article is actually entitled “Why does the MacBook Air make so many so dumb?” and is available at here. The content of the article is nothing like that implied by the gross misrepresentation of the articles content by Beautiful Minds.

The article is actually a look at the fact that there are a lot of people saying they are disappointed in the product as it is not a desktop or MacBook (Pro or standard) replacement. David Morgenstern though points out the rather obvious fact that the MacBook Air is not designed nor intended to be a replacement for these systems it is something completely different. Thus, the complainants reactions are based on a lack of information and emotion, hence they are to be blunt dumb reactions.

The MacBook Air is aimed at the high end of the market where a style is arguably more important than the feature set and power of other platforms. The MacBook Air’s primary users, at least initially, will be yuppies, executives, and those that are always travelling. These users are often happy to trade many of the features that a full blown system offers for the sake of weight reduction and mobility.

I agree with the sentiments of Mr Morgenstern in this matter. I am sick of seeing people that do not understand a system or a market bag something without considering the intent. It is similar to the way John Cow has bagged Entrecard simply because he did not understand the system.

Personally though I am a little disappointed that the MacBook Air is so costly. However, I do accept that I am not in the demographic and that the intended market needs are met. In that it is an incredibly light and swish machine.

Apple definitely make the best IT products. This is the first time I have seen the Ultrathin MacBook Air. I am popping in to an Apple store tomorrow to check it out. Thanks Kiwipulse.
