Look, there’s a giant spider! Run! Just kidding! This gigantic sculpture of the spider named “Maman” is 30 feet in height and width, with a sac containing 26 marble eggs. It’s one of Louise Bourgeois, the creator, famous sculptures. There’s one stainless steel version which is currently being lend to the Tate Modern in London. There are another six bronze casts located at National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, Samsung Museum of Modern Art in Seoul and Havana in Cuba. What a fine piece of contemporary sculpture that I would like to put in front of my house, if only I can afford it.

We will all buy you a Smirnoff so you can afford this sculpture. By the way, I really like it! It’s much more fun to walk under, I’m sure, than some conventional structures. Pretty cool.

I hate spiders so I’m not sure how I would cope with seeing this…. :)

Thank you so much for the video, I have written about it in my latest post as it was too good just to stay in the comments :)

Have a great Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

I like it! Not too many modern artworks that I do like. Generally they are something so abstract you have no idea what it is. I this case its a great whopping spider and can be nothing else. It rocks!

Even if I could afford it, I simply do not have the space to locate it. I however agree that it is a beautiful piece of sculpture.

I’m sure they’ll think of using this structure in a Giant Spider Movie or something!

Hi kiwipulse, so this humongous thingy is Spidermaman eh? Must be a male spider. I think I would like to see this sculpture and examine it piece by piece. I used to play with spiders as a kid and we used have 2 of them fight it out to the death, with bets. The spiders would be put on a bamboo stick and I and the rest of the gang would enjoy watching them knock each other off.

Sounds pretty stupid now but it was fun then. The other part is the hunt for spiders which we did in wooded areas where we used to live.

Very nice post. –Durano, done!
