San Alfonso del Mar: World’s Largest Pool

Posted in Various

What is your travel plan for this Christmas holiday? Would like to spend your time in a popular beach resort? If you are lucky and have a budget for travel plans for this holiday, then I suggest going to the world’s largest pool in San Alfonso del Mar. As for us, the unlucky ones, we will have to deal with the cold weather. One of the best activities to do on the beach is surely walking along the beach. What about walking bare feet on the beach and feeling the warm sand between your toes. The best walking areas still remains near the shoreline, where the sand is wet and more comfortable to walk in.

When comes the time to swim, do you dare to swim with the sharks? I’m joking of course, but due to the intense pollution in most beaches swimming is not always allowed. The kinds of pollution in these areas can possibly lead to cancers, birth defects, mental retardation and life expectancies approaching medieval levels. That’s way turning to artificial beaches become more safe and pleasant.

Today we are going to South America. We are not going to watch a horse rodeo, which is the national sport. We’re going to visit the world’s largest pool in the San Alfonso del Mar resort. It’s an artificial beach lagoon which has a 1000 meters long outdoor pool. The resort includes white sand beaches and palm trees around every building. The water is pumped from the ocean, which is then filtered and treated before supplying to the pool. Are you ready to do a splash at the world’s largest pool?

What an amazing site. It almost doesn’t look real in some of the photos. Definitely shark free!

Yes, I’m ready! Are we meeting at a certain time? Which end of the pool?

    That really is amazing!

Only man would think to build a pool of ocean water next to the ocean…
And from the photos,, if you wanted to put your feet in the real stuff,, you’d have to walk a mile or two just to get around the fake ocean,, for no bridgeways do I see,, spanning the fake ocean… I’ll bet the Smirnoff there,, ice or no ice,, costs as much as a Rolex on times square,, besides I like my drinks with little umbrellas,, shaken not stirred of course………

It certainly looks nice, but I can’t help wonder if it’s good for the environment? Do they put an chemicals in the ocean through that “pool?”

    Oh my…

How much water does it need to be filled to overflowing :?:

Fix the pollution problem and there’s no need for the pool. But that’s not financially beneficial. Still, very impressive. And very ridiculous.

The sea is quite cold and there are strong currents. You can walk on the beach, fish, but it is dangerous and rather impossible to swim there. That is why it made sense to build that lagoon. You can row, learn to sail and enjoy yourself. Besides, there is a huge filtered and heated seawater pool under the pyramid that can be seen in some pictures. The place is great, and only a ninety minutes (or less) drive from Santiago, the capital city.

To book a room simply go to http://www.sanalfonso.cl

The website take ages to load, but they have plenty of apartments for rent. As is summer in Chile now prices are quite expensive. For a one bedroom apartment expect to pay about $1,300 per week during January and February ($1,750 for two bedrooms, $2,100 for three, and about $2,300 for four).
