Surfrider: Beach Pollution Into Perspective

May 10, 2008 – 12:15 pm | Written by KiwiPulse

Do you know how clean our beaches and oceans are? The best people to ask is surely the Surfrider Foundation, a non-profit environmental organization whose main focus is the protection and enjoyment of the world’s oceans, waves and beaches for all people through conservation, activism, research and education. The organization was founded in 1984 by a handful of visionary surfers in Malibu, California. Today the Surfrider Foundation have over 50,000 members and 80 chapters worldwide.

They bring us this ad campaign from Saatchi & Saatchi with all kinds of surprises that we may find in our beaches and oceans. Will you enjoy your time on the beach with these Catch of the Day? :???:

To put beach pollution into perspective, trash was collected from various beaches, packaged it to look like seafood and displayed it at local farmers’ markets. This is the print extension for those who couldn’t actually make it to the market.

This is exactly why you wear beach shoes while walking or swimming at the beach. I’m sure this is just a glimpse of what really lurks out there.

OOOOh very effective anti litter ad campaign! The irony of supposedly packing and selling rubbish is a great way to get across the statement!

This is an amazing campaign. The global environmental problems are really starting to employ some amazing people to create hard hitting campaigns. I guess the passion and urgency is perfect to breed such creativity.

Thank god I don’t swim. I’ll end up being mutated after a swim.

It is always such a wonderful feeling when families go out on vacations and go to beaches. Kids play around, swimming and having a good time. This ad is to awaken and call on people that we must do our part in keeping our beaches/ oceans clean so that our kids and their future kids may still experience the wonders of our beaches and oceans through conservation.

Uggg! Yeeech! Pretty darn gross, but effective. Especially when you realize the stuff really came from actual beaches.

Xcellent post, effective and it gets its message across. I prefer the cigarettes the most.
