Volkswagen: The New Beetle, A Timeless Classic

Posted in Advertising

I am sure everyone around the world have probably heard or seen the New Beetle introduced by Volkswagen in 1998. The drawing model of the New Beetle is heavily inspired by the design cues of the original Beetle. This year, to commemorate their tenth year of New Beetle production, Volkswagen launched the limited Anniversary Edition. This special edition Beetle is distinguished by its two tone colours of ‘Campenella White’ and black roof with mirror housing, 17 inch ‘Versus’ alloy wheels, sports suspension. The interior also features a two tone leatherette colours of white and black with white seam stitching.

Their idea for this ad campaign is a very traditional way of advertising. Although time does flies but the original beetle and the new beetle still keep its traditional sharp. Indeed not much have changed over the years…

Not very inspiring ads are they? I am a great Beetle fan and will never find fault with the car. This series of ads however fall flat and do not do justice to the car or its reputation.

I don’t get the ads at all. The traditional outfit vs miniskirt is like comparing old and new Beetle? Doesn’t impress at all.

  3. Paid Online Free Surveys on

Whoohoo, I had a beetle for a few years. Like those above me, I am not impressed with these ads. Pretty lackluster. The chair display is my least favorite of all.

The love the ad, there is still nothing like the Beetle.

  5. Find Cars Online on

There will never quiet be a car like the beetle, where it be the old one or the new one, and here in South Africa it will always be the VW families favorite car.

I quite like the subtle touch in the ads. It juxtaposes the old with the new very nicely.

the ads are tasteful and subtle, something desireable in advertising if you wish a visual break. the ads also look tailored to (China?) so it would be interesting to get a local’s perspective on these ads. This writer from USA.

I don’t really like VW old design. But I admit that the new design is sweet and unique.
